SCENE 01 – Reporting in after a routine Run, Phoenix-6 arrives at Sandman HQ with the evidence retrieved from the Runner. He turns in the evidence to Reggie-8 who enters the evidence into the system and then places it into the Vault (in reality, the Vault is merely a shaft to an incinerator beneath the Domed City).

Upon Identifying, Phoenix-10 receives a message that he is to meet with the Central Intelligence in a Conference Room. Phoenix has never had direct contact with the CI before; Reggie believes that great things are in store for Phoenix and that he is probably in line for a promotion.

SCENE 02 – Entering into the cool, dimly lit Conference Room, Phoenix finds a single chair and terminal screen. He sits in the chair and Identifies. The CI assigns Phoenix a new assignment: locate a group called the Children of Annu and discover what Ascension means.

SCENE 03 – Consulting with Apollo-10 and Reggie-8, the Sandmen discover that a cult of Runners has formed called the Children of Annu, and than many of them are running even tho they are not even close to Renewal. Further digging shows that 17% of recent Runners have been part of the this group and that there appears to be a genetic mutation they share which allows them to create an enzyme that is typically provided by the CI. Being able to produce this enzyme individually means that these people could conceivablly live beyond their 30th birthday.

SCENE 04 – Phoenix goes to Arcade and visits an acquaintance of his, Giles-5. After losing a card game to Phoenix, Phoenix appeals to Giles’ desire to leave a legacy behind after Carousel when inquiring about the Children of Annu. Giles informs Phoenix that the group seems to be centered around a medical clinic which is used for annual checkups and life clock calibrations.

SCENE 05 – Phoenix, Reggie, and Apollo go to the clinic and find the front door is closed and locked — something that typically is not done in the Domed City. After smashing through the front glass of the clinic, the Sandmen hear the sounds of screaming and a crowd fleeing.

They search the clinic trying to find the source of the sounds and discover a trap door in an operating room; the door is open and a ladder leads to a service tunnel below the city.

SCENE 06 – The Sandmen pursue the 3 dozen or so Runners in the vast tunnel system below the city. Descending a metal stair, three Runners stay behind and engage in a fire fight with the Sandmen.

Phoenix runs forward, barrelling into the Runners but is outnumbered. Reggie wounds one of them badly and the other run. Whilst Reggie and Apollo stay behind to stabilize the Runner.

SCENE 07 – Phoenix chases the Runners deep within the underground tunnels and the trail ends at an underground set of tracks. The two Runners that engaged in the fire fight escape by means of a manual cart on the tracks, disappearing into the dark. There is no other cart available for Phoenix to continue pursuit.

SCENE 08 – Apollo tears apart his lab coat to staunch the gaping hole in the Runner’s stomach but is unable to stabilize him and the the Runner dies — strangely, this Runner was a Green, many years from going to Carousel …
