DATELINE: 24 May 1925 – SCENE 01 – At breakfast, Ishaq Rahad tells the team about his journey to the Dreamlands and Asad‘s quest to get the Black Blade of Ubboth.

SCENE 02 – Chesterfield heads to the ship’s library to see if he can find any books about the City in the Clouds, but his search turns up empty. He does, however, find a book about Dreams and takes this book back to Shosenberg‘s cabin.

SCENE 03 – When the team gathers in Shosenberg’s cabin, she consults Adler‘s journal and they piece together the knowledge that someone can answer the Dreamlands in the flesh. Further discussion and study reveals that in all likelihood, Augustus Larkin is still alive. This would explain Nugguth Yugg‘s statement about a great evil returning to the Dreamlands. The team realizes that they may have made a grave error in banishing Larkin to the Dreamlands.

SCENE 04 – In the Dreamlands, Nugguth Yugg uses the journey to the moon to teach Asad how Dreaming works. Asad is a natural, it appears, and creates a copy of the Qaran. Nugguth Yugg also tells Asad that to get past the Guardian of the City in the Clouds, he must take one who has the Second Sight.

SCENE 05 – Asad Dreams a door into the side of the Temple of Mnomquah, giving them the advantage of surprise when they get to the Chamber of the Blade. The see that the blade is guarded by two serpent men, suspended above a pool of perfectly still black water.

Asad and Nugguth Yugg engage in battle with the serpent men and emerge victorious after a deadly and tense encounter. Asad learns that the black water burns like poison but manages to turn the tables on one of the guards and seal his fate beneath the still water that doesn’t ripple even when someone is thrown in. They make their escape as the temple guards chase after them.

SCENE 06 – That evening, in the Waking World, the team meets with Mdme Helga for the seance. As the seance begins, the walls of the tent seem to melt away and are replaced with a vast garden, yet the table, chairs, and other furnishings remain. Mdme Helga’s eyes are riveted to her crystal ball and she is unable to turn away from what she sees. The team realizes that Chesterfield and Mwai are missing …

SCENE 07 – Chesterfield and Mwai find themselves in the same location that Allen was previously. Following the same path, Mwai is reunited with his grandfather, Bundari, who explains how his consciousness is now trapped in the Dreamlands. Bundari warns them about the City in the Clouds and leads them to a small pond, beyond which is a steep hill. Bundari bids them climb the hill but be careful.

The hill proves to be too steep for Mwai but Chesterfield is able to make it to the top and sees a darkness engulfing the Dreamlands beyond. A massive, cyclopean City, floating among the stormclouds, squats close to the horizon. Chesterfield gets the feeling that someone, or something notices them, and the City begins to approach the hill, moving at a speed only possible in a Dream.

The sky begins to darken over his location, and a terrible wind picks up. Mwai and Chesterfield know they must cut their visit short and run back up the pathway.

SCENE 08 – In Mdme Helga’s tent, a gale has started up and the team is fighting against the terrible wind and noise as Mdme Helga describes what she sees, the terrible City in the Clouds, approaching. She is unable to tear her eyes away from the scene unfolding in her crystal ball. Shosenberg lifts the crystal ball and hurls it, ending the chaotic scene.

After several chaotic minutes in the tent, the team realizes they are all present, but they now know that the City in the Clouds, and its Guardian, has noticed them, and is heading their way.

SCENE 09 – Asad awakens from the Dreamlands, holding the Black Blade. He discovers that when he is holding the Blade, he can make out his surroundings. It is not exactly like sight, but he sees the world in shades of grey. He can also clearly see, like a beacon atop a distant hill, the City in the Clouds, as it grows nearer and nearer to the Excalibur.

Asad knows what he must now do.
