DAY 2 , SHIFT 1-2 – After resting, Laux takes the sample she obtained to Dr Lao in the research lab. Dr Lao confirms that there’s really no way for an explosive to be made from the chemicals on Boreas, but she senses that he’s holding something back and presses him.
Dr Lao shows her a file he has been compiling that be thinks ties the explosions to an emission being released into Neptune’s atmosphere by the Ice-19; when enough builds up in the hydrogen-rich atmosphere, it spontaneously combusts, much like swamp gas, according to him. However, to confirm his theory would require getting core samples from deep into the Ice-19.
DAY 2, SHIFT 3 – Mendelssohn studies the data in Sokolov’s file and learns that after serving at Saturn, he re-entered the private sector on Earth. He arrived at Boreas 6 months ago and there are 6 months totally unaccounted for in his record.
While interviewing Sokolov, Fenna learns that Sokolov not only believes that Nichikon‘s CEO, Hirokawa, did not commit suicide and is alive and well, but he claims to have met her on Earth a few weeks ago even though it would have been impossible. When this fact is brought up, Sokolov smirks and says there are ways off of Boreas that Packard doesn’t know about. Fenna asks Sokolov if he would be okay with taking a baseline test, and Sokolov agrees. However, once the baseline test begins, Sokolov grabs his head and screams and falls to the floor, convulsing. Medics are called but are too late, Sokolov is already dead.

Exley interviews Miriam Zelenkova, one of the labor union bosses and learns that she has political aspirations and claims to have blackmail on Akira Ren, whom she despises.
DAY 2, SHIFT 4 – Mendelssohn performs an autopsy on Sokolov. Beneath at strange tattoo of six unknown characters on his chest, Mendelssohn scans an object embedded in his chest. Cutting into Sokolov, he retrieves a tiny circuit board. Mendelssohn has a sudden recollection of Hirokawa having a similar tattoo on her wrist but cannot be certain. Sokolov appears to have died from a brain aneurysm.
